[19 July 2023] Trenitalia-owned train operator c2c is delighted to be a main sponsor of\u00a0Herd<\/span>\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0City<\/span>, a spectacular public art event running\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Southend this summer, with a number of prizes up for grabs for trail visitors.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0public art exhibition, run\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0partnership with Wild\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Art and local charity, Havens Hospice, took over\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0streets of Southend-on-Sea, Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness on Friday 14 July and will remain at sites across\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0city<\/span>\u00a0throughout\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0summer, until Monday, 4 September 2023.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0art trail has more than 30 large elephant sculptures and over 70 baby elephant sculptures dotted around\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0City<\/span>\u00a0of Southend,\u00a0in<\/span>cluding Shoeburyness and Leigh-on\u00ad Sea, for locals and visitors to enjoy over\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0next eight weeks.<\/p>\n

c2c\u2019s specially-selected sponsored elephant is called\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0\u2018Selphiephant\u2019 and will be\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Southend, located by M&S on\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0High Street, with attendees encouraged to snap some pictures when\u00a0the<\/span>y spot it.\u00a0In<\/span>spired by\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0popular idea of winged murals,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0\u2018Selfielephant\u2019 is a dual design that allows visitors to choose\u00a0the<\/span>ir winged selfie backdrop.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0artist behind c2c\u2019s elephant is Jason Curtis who, evolving from a lifelong career\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0engineering, is a versatile creative whose work ranges from exquisitely detailed bespoke leatherwork, through dramatic nautical painting and urban driftwood sculptures, to spirited cartoons that vividly capture his sense of humour.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0event’s 3D Elephant sculptures were chosen because\u00a0the<\/span>y depict many of\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0values of hospice care –\u00a0the<\/span>y never forget, much like\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0families making treasured memories together and saying goodbye to loved ones at Havens Hospices, and\u00a0the<\/span>y are sensitive, caring and nurturing, much like\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Care Teams who work tirelessly, ‘Making every day count’ for\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0hospice’s patients and families.<\/p>\n

c2c\u2019s\u00a0In<\/span>terim Commercial Director, Steve Knights said: \u201cWe are delighted to support Havens Hospice\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0another collaboration with Wild\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Art on this exciting sculpture trail\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Southend-on-Sea. Not only is this a fantastic day out, but it is also aligned with a good cause, as\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Little Havens Children\u2019s Hospice does so much to help children and families\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0area we serve.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>re is also a competition for c2c customers available on\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0app, which encourages players to find and collect\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0elephant sculptures dotted around\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0city<\/span>. Users need to\u00a0enter a 4-digit code displayed on\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0sculpture plaques\u00a0in<\/span>to\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0app. Each big sculpture can unlock one big reward.<\/p>\n
