[17 June 2024] Local rail operator Trenitalia c2c is delighted to be taking part in the Better Transport Week campaign, which runs from the 17 to 23 June, to promote the benefits of sustainable transport.<\/p>\n

\"<\/p>\n

The awareness week – created by the Campaign for Better Transport to highlight the environmental and local benefits of sustainable transport – will see a series of events take place across the country to encourage local communities to consider rail travel for their next trip, with c2c proud to be on board as an official supporter of the campaign.<\/p>\n

According to the Campaign for Better Transport, rail travel, \u2018shrinks traffic jams, cleans up our air and tackles climate change, all while improving our health and boosting the UK economy.\u2019<\/p>\n

As part of our support for Better Transport Week, c2c will be highlighting the benefits of sustainable rail travel and the impact it has on the world around us on our social media channels, as well as encouraging customers to book their next trip by rail.<\/p>\n

As well as being environmentally friendly, travelling by train is good for your pocket when you book in advance, as you can save up to 40% with c2c\u2019s Online Advance off-peak return tickets, which can be purchased as e-tickets.<\/p>\n

c2c is committed to playing our part in green transport provision; as a sustainable railway network with an entirely electric fleet of trains, we want to encourage everybody in our local communities to climb aboard our trains more often. Did you know: making a train journey train produces nine times less carbon emissions than the same trip made by petrol or diesel car?<\/p>\n

Further marking this commitment, the rail operator has taken great strides to ensure that we\u2019re driving toward greater energy efficiency across the network. This is at the forefront of our priorities; all the energy used to power our trains is generated via renewable sources, while our brand-new Class 720 trains are lighter and more energy efficient, making them significantly better for the environment.<\/p>\n

To celebrate our support for the campaign, c2c Managing Director, Rob Mullen, met with Director of Policy and Research for Better Transport from the Campaign for Better Transport, Silviya Barrett, and Katie Southgate, CEO of local children\u2019s cancer charity and c2c charity partner, Gold Geese, at Leigh-on-Sea station to discuss the benefits of travelling by rail and the impact this can have on local communities.<\/p>\n

As a c2c charity partner, we have worked closely with Gold Geese on fundraising initiatives, donated toys and gifts, provided free travel to families the charity supports for hospital visits, and we even \u2018wrapped\u2019 a c2c train to help raise awareness of Gold Geese\u2019s incredible community work.<\/p>\n

Rob Mullen, Managing Director of c2c, said of the occasion: \u201cIt\u2019s great that we\u2019re here to celebrate the many benefits of rail travel and how it can have a major impact on achieving the UK\u2019s sustainability targets in the long and short-term.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Silviya Barrett, Director of Policy and Research for Better Transport, added: \u201cTrains are one of the greenest ways to travel. As a regular commuter by train and bike, it\u2019s also a great way to keep fit and use your time productively.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m delighted to celebrate the benefits of train travel to passengers and to communities with official partners to the week c2c and with local charity Gold Geese.\u201d<\/p>\n
