[Thursday 12 September] Local rail operator Trenitalia c2c has confirmed that plans to launch pay as you go with contactless across its entire route have been put on hold due to the ongoing Transport for London (TfL) cyber security incident.<\/em><\/p>\n

Following a statement released earlier this afternoon by TfL, c2c has confirmed that plans to rollout pay as you go with contactless across its entire route from 22 September have been put on hold due to the serious and ongoing nature of the TfL cyber security incident.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Shashi Verma, TfL’s Chief Technology Officer, said:<\/p>\n

\u2018’The security measures we are taking mean that it is now not possible for us to deliver the necessary system changes to enable 47 additional stations outside London [including 15 stations on the c2c network] to benefit from pay as you go with contactless on 22 September as planned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working with DfT and the Rail Delivery Group to reschedule and we apologise for the delay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenting, Rob Mullen, Managing Director at c2c, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe serious nature of the ongoing Transport for London cyber attack means it is not possible to launch pay as you go with contactless across our route as planned on 22 September.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this is extremely unfortunate, we recognise that it is vitally important that all issues are fully and satisfactorily resolved by TfL before we move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rob added:<\/p>\n

\u201cc2c is currently working closely with industry partners and colleagues at Transport for London, and we look forward to sharing a new launch date for pay as you go with contactless with our customers in due course.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe remain fully committed to this fast and flexible ticketing and payment method which will make travelling with c2c quicker and easier than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n
